Q. What are the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines?

View the 2007 HHS Poverty Guidelines.

Q. Should I call a program with a long waiting list?

Yes, you should always call for help even if there is a long waiting list!  You may be moved ahead if your situation requires immediate action.

Q. What is a sliding fee scale?

A sliding fee is a cost to you that is determined by your income. For example, if you have a very small income you will be asked to pay less for a service than someone who has a larger income.

Q. How do I get a program referral?

Providers, like food pantries, may require a "referral".  A care professional prepares a written referral.  A professional can be a case worker, counselor or clergy person.  A referral verifies your need & recommends action.  Give the written referral to the provider who requested it.

Q. How can I get help in other cities?

We are a member of the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (AIRS). Through AIRS we can link you to a referral service in almost any major metro area.

Q. Do you provide counseling?

Although we are not a counseling service, we can refer you to an agency that provides counseling.  We help callers identify their needs.  Based on the unique needs and circumstances of each caller, we direct callers to the program(s) that can best offer them assistance.
